Reminiscent of Hieronymus Bosch's Garden of Earthly Delights. the colors are bright, and the figures are nothing short of amazing. If you are a fan of his or just a lover of great American Folk art, this is a must have. Jack died last year, so sadly, there won't be any more like this. Here are Jack's own words about his very interesting life.
I’m Mr. B (Jack Beverland), a self-taught southern folk artist who has painted professionally for 26 years. I find peace of mind in my special style of artwork. I always start with a title; the title takes a picture in my mind. The picture in my mind takes me back to early 1900’s. Then I draw what I see on my board and paint it. I live within each painting because I paint myself in them. I use dimensional acrylic and glow in the dark paint.
I started at the bottom of the ladder with one of America’s chain stores and climbed to the top. I have always had a strong work ethic and pride myself with always being the best at what I did. As a result of personal losses following an auto accident, career downsizing and my wife’s diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease, I sank into a depression with feelings of helplessness, rejection, and loneliness. Living within my artwork, painting happier times was the only way I got through each day. My personal quote that I live by every day is “the sun comes up in the east and sets in the west. You pray to God that everything will happen good in between but sometimes it doesn’t.”
