Arthur Diehl

The Sand Dune

Well-listed and highly sought-after artist Arthur Vidal Diehl (1870 – 12 January 1929) was a prominent English impressionist landscape artist. He was born in London, England, but for most of his career, he lived in Provincetown, Massachusetts, United States where he painted Old World and New World landscapes. Diehl's Old World subjects include scenes from Italy, Morocco, England, and the Netherlands. His subjects in the United States include Cape Cod, Boston, St. Augustine, Florida, and New York City.

One of his favorite subjects was the beach dune. This painting is a somewhat larger version than he usually painted of this subject. It is in excellent condition from a Florida estate. I can only discern a couple of very small restoration touch-up spots in the sky, making up less than 1%. These are only detectable under close scrutiny and, in my opinion, do not at all interfere with the enjoyment of the work. Judging by the telephone number on the framer's label (verso) I would assess the frame is from the 1950s.

If you are a collector of Diehl's work, you will recognize that this beautiful painting is going for a bargain price.
